Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had an impromptu meeting with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Dubai airport. During their conversation, the President asked Banerjee if she would lead the Opposition alliance. Banerjee replied, "It depends on the will of the people, you know... If people support us, we can be in position (power) tomorrow." The Opposition Front INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) is currently being run by collective leadership, and who it will finally choose as the face to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not been decided yet. Banerjee's response to the President's question suggests that she is open to the idea of leading the Opposition alliance if the people support her. Banerjee is the current Chief Minister of West Bengal and has been serving in this position since 2011. She led her party to a landslide victory in the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections.
